On the paludous extent of the Camargue decoupe the enclosure strengthened of Acute Died, built ex nihilo in XIIIe century by Louis Saint in order to give to the kingdom of France a port on Méditérranée. The tower of Constancy, one of the most majestic keeps of the architecture of the Average Age, and the 1634 meters of ramparts flanked of 20 turns will be completed in less than 50 years. After one period of radiation, the city painfully will remain, preserving intact, until our days, most of its medieval environment. The tower of Constancy sadly became famous to have been used as prison to the Cevennes Protestant women since 1685. This use had started since 1307 with Templiers and will be stopped only in 1768.
